Puoro Music AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND
Described as a “national treasure” and “New Zealand’s most indispensable ensemble” NZTrio is renowned for its eclectic repertoire, outstanding talent and warm kiwi stage presence. In this new collaborative project they team up with established contemporary artist Simon Ingram and collaborators John-Paul Pochin and Kamahi Electronics, to present Rhythms of the Brain. Including brand new commission Asymptote, from accomplished NZ composer Alex Taylor, this visceral experience combines the exceptional musical talents of Amalia Hall (violin), Ashley Brown (cello) and Somi Kim (piano) and interprets their brain patterns as a visual work of art.
Rhythms of the Brain is generously supported by the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust.
The Festival presents the world premiere of this fascinating exploration of the inner workings of the brain and its response to musical stimuli, captured in real time with an EEG headset and interpreted through specially developed software onto canvas over the duration of the performance.
